child's play
I read an interesting article, The Play Deficit. It talks about children today unlike children many years ago have little time for free play - the kind of play that isn't adult led, adult interrupted or school structured. I've naturally allowed my children tons of time for free play. It's how I grew up. My boys have taken very few play classes and instead spend hours at the playground, exploring the city, playing in the park and playing at home. One section of the article talks about how child led play if allowed can be a useful tool for growing up and even choosing a profession. This made me think of the time when I was around 7 years old. My friend and I dressed in our Sunday best, removed every cubic zirconia from my princess crowns and carried a small table to the end of my driveway to sell our jewels. It seemed like the best idea in the world.

enchanted forest
This short video might bring out mixed feeling in parents but I think these are some very lucky kids. The forest can be a magical place for a child. I remember visiting my Grandmother who lived in a very rural place in Tennessee. There was this beautiful little stream in the middle of the woods. I let my imagination run wild and would return many times to 'Alice in Wonderland' where I had spotted the white rabbit.
