The Carol Burnett Show

The Carol Burnett Show

I watched an awesome documentary series on PBS last night. The show was called Makers: Women in Comedy. It was one of a six-part series expanding on the critically acclaimed PBS documentary MAKERS: Women Who Make America. It was refreshing to hear stories and thoughts by women who have pioneered in their fields. My favorite as a young girl was Carol Burnett. I was absolutely addicted to The Carol Burnett Show. I remember watching it every day after school then returning the next day to practice contorting my face for friends just like Carol. I had zero inhibitions at that age. The women highlighted in this series overcame any fears they may have felt and rose to the top of their male dominated fields. Very inspiring and if I had a daughter, I would definitely watch it with her.

MAKERS Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 9:00 PM ET on PBS.

I love hand loomed wall hangings. These are inspired by ancient indigenous craft work.

southern roots

If you've ever heard me talk, you probably figured out pretty quickly that I'm southern. When I'm feeling nostalgic about the south, I usually do one of two things; listen to bluegrass or play on repeat Taylor Swift's "Red" (the live version with Allison Krauss and Vince Gill) while making jewelry. My New York City born, country music loathing husband just loves this. I bought this cute t-shirt for my son Julian last month. It makes me proud y'all.

Thanksgiving is approaching and it's my favorite holiday. Every year my parents come into town, the boys go to the parade and family and friends join us for Thanksgiving dinner. I love the simplicity of this holiday. On the other hand, it also happens to be our busiest time of the year. On November 20th, I begin selling my jewelry at the Union Square Holiday Market, which I absolutely love, but it leaves me little time to prepare for Thanksgiving. So I plan ahead so I can enjoy my favorite holiday with my favorite people. For a little Thanksgiving inspiration, I found these beautiful place settings and table settings around the web.
